Linköping University, with its three faculties: Institute of Technology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences, has 32 000 students and about 4000 employees (including 300 professors and 1200 PhD students). LiU has 120 educational programs (27 international) and a turnover of about 4000 million SEK per year.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering, located at the university hospital, has about 50 employees (including 6 professors and 16 PhD students) who do research within biomedical optics, systems biology, biomaterials, medical images, health informatics and neuro engineering. The medical imaging group focuses on diffusion MRI and functional MRI, and the research covers developing novel MR sequences as well as advanced data analysis using statistics, image processing and deep learning. Data are collected at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualisation (CMIV) at the hospital, which houses MR scanners from both Philips and Siemens.
